Future of the Workplace
Hybrid work arrangements are the future. According to Gallup, 90% of U.S. employees with a desk or office job do not want to return to the office five days a week. Yet hybrid work presents a societal paradox – working from home can improve overall life but worsen life at work.
As Gallup CEO Jon Clifton will discuss in his keynote address, while working from home may benefit our social and physical wellbeing, it isn’t ideal for our work wellbeing. Since the pandemic, engagement has declined across the board – and it dropped most dramatically for those who work remotely full-time.
Compared to before the pandemic, remote workers are now less likely to know what is expected of them, feel less connected to the mission and purpose of the organization, and feel less recognized. And those three things have one thing in common – poor communication between managers and leaders. Gallup has found that managers impact 70% of employees’ workplace wellbeing.
Clifton, who authored Blind Spot: The Global Rise of Unhappiness and How Leaders Missed It, will review these and other insights into a workplace that will never return to pre-pandemic “normal.”
