Dr. Joel Davis is a Clinical Professor in the Information Systems & Operations Management department at the University of Florida’s Warrington College of Business, specializing in AI, analytics, and business decision-making.
Davis studies, teaches, and advises organizations on how artificial intelligence changes the way people make decisions, organizations operate, and work gets done.
Three questions drive much of what he does:
How should organizations actually use AI? The challenge is increasingly less about whether AI can perform a task and more about where it should be deployed, how it should be integrated into existing systems and workflows, and where human judgment remains essential.
What happens when humans and algorithms make decisions together? AI is becoming an increasingly important participant in managerial and organizational decision-making. My research examines human reliance on algorithmic advice, AI adoption, automation versus augmentation, and the organizational consequences of introducing intelligent systems.
How will AI reshape organizations and work? Generative AI and increasingly capable AI systems are changing the economics of knowledge work. Some tasks will be automated, others augmented, and entirely new ways of organizing work will emerge. Understanding that transition and developing the skills, incentives, and institutions required to navigate it are among the defining management challenges of the coming decade.
